Velázquez Secures Funding for Local Projects

Washington D.C.—Today, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) has announced that in the just-passed House bill H.R. 2471, twenty local community organizations in New York's 7th Congressional District will receive new funding.

"With our country continuing to emerge from the COVID-19, it was crucial that we made sure in this legislation that federal dollars reach the organizations and initiatives on the ground that are helping to support working families," said Velázquez. "Everything from job training and mentorship for youth living in public housing to ensuring culturally appropriate mental health services are available to those struggling, these funding projects will go a long way towards achieving a more prosperous and just New York City."

The following funding projects are included in the bill:

  • Vision Urbana Older Adult Workforce Development & Entrepreneur Training Initiative, $300,000
  • Anti-displacement community-based direct legal services and tenant education, $750,000
  • East New York/Cypress Hills Covid-19 Recovery Initiative, $300,000
  • Special Initiatives Program-Housing, $750,000
  • El Puente de Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY for environmental studies programming, $500,000
  • Friends of Marcy Houses, Brooklyn, NY for tutoring and mentoring, $150,000
  • New York Sun Works, New York, NY for STEM and sustainability education, $800,000
  • Chinese-American Planning Council, New York, NY for mental health services, including outreach, education and other support services, $500,000
  • UPROSE, Brooklyn, NY for workforce development initiative, $175,000
  • Pioneer Works Art Foundation, Brooklyn, NY for eleven nonprofit/community organization youth development programs by CORA Dance, Alex House, Hook Arts Media, Red Hook Rise, Brothers Dream, PortSide NewYork, Heartshare, Red Hook Art Project, Red Hook Initiative, and Red Hook Community Justice Center, $1,000,000.
