Velázquez on Asian-Pacific Heritage Month

Washington, DC – Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement marking Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month:

“This month provides an important opportunity to celebrate the myriad ways Asian Americans have helped strengthen our society. Whether it is Manhattan’s Chinatown, Brooklyn’s Sunset Park or a rapidly growing number of other areas throughout all five boroughs, New York has been especially influenced by its Asian residents. Through their music, food, entrepreneurial spirit and countless other cultural contributions, New York’s Asian residents are an integral part of our City’s identity.

“In coming years, we can expect Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to continue contributing to our country’s achievements and adding to the cultural tapestry of all our communities. This month, we should all take time to honor their commitment and sacrifices to our nation.”
