Velazquez Statement on Trump Administration SAP on Emergency Supplemental

January 17, 2019

Washington, DC – Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez commented today on a Statement of Administration Policy regarding H.R. 268, the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2019:

"It is wholly unconscionable that this Administration would oppose emergency assistance to Americans affected by disaster - and specifically cite $600 million in nutrition assistance to Puerto Rico as one reason for doing so. This is a program that aids some of the most vulnerable who have already suffered immensely because of the Trump Administration's bumbled and ineffective response to Hurricanes Maria and Irma. Our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico need food and nutrition assistance, not paper towels thrown at them. I will continue working with my colleagues to see this funding signed into law."
