Velázquez on Impeachment Inquiry

Velázquez on Impeachment Inquiry
September 24, 2019
Press Release

Washington, DC – Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) released the following statement today:

“The facts suggest the President sought to enlist a foreign leader to assist his reelection campaign. If true, this is a violation of the President’s oath to defend the constitution and protect our national security.  Moreover, the Administration is violating the law by refusing to provide Congress the full whistleblower complaint.

“I fully support Congress beginning a formal impeachment inquiry. This should be no cause for celebration for any American, but, rather, viewed as a necessary step for Congress to carry out its constitutional duties, in light of the grave dangers this unlawful Administration poses to our democracy.

“I now implore Congressional Republicans to, at long last, put your country before party and participate in this process in a fair, nonpartisan manner.  The American people and history will judge you harshly should you not live up to that solemn duty.”
