Washington, DC – Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), concerned with the continued proliferation of gun violence nationwide, has reintroduced a bill that would address the "iron pipeline" of guns smuggled across state lines to locations with more lenient gun laws. The bill, titled The Stopping the Iron Pipeline Act of 2021 would establish a national standard for weapon identification technology installed within firearms, enabling law enforcement to trace the origins of guns connected to criminal activity.

Washington, DC – As spring draws near, more public schools could soon become hands-on, green workshops on the environment and sustainability through Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez's (D-NY) bill. The legislation, titled the Public School Green Rooftop Program would allocate federal resources towards implementing green roofs at public elementary and secondary schools. These roofs offer a sustainable, energy-efficient way of bringing green space to urban areas and have myriad educational benefits for students and the community at large.

Velázquez (D-N.Y.) has introduced the Paris Climate Agreement Disclosures Act, a bill that would require the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to promulgate a rule that would compel public companies to make part of their annual shareholder report the steps they are taking to meet the greenhouse gas emissions targets and temperature goals set forth in the Paris Climate Accord.

Washington, DC - Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) has introduced the "Puerto Rico Recovery Accuracy in Disclosures Act of 2021." Known as PRRADA, the bill would extend current U.S. law to require disclosures of conflicts of interest in all PROMESA bankruptcy proceedings in Puerto Rico, and thereby improve transparency and restore confidence in the island's future. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) has introduced a companion bill in the U.S. Senate.

Velázquez (D-NY) has led thirteen of her New York House and Senate colleagues in a letter to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) and Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) demanding information on the recent death of detainee Edwin Segarra from COVID-19. MDC has yet to release information about Segarra's condition and treatment prior to being hospitalized for COVID-19.
