Washington, DC –Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) has written Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after hearing that a Jewish detainee in upstate New York, Dovid Kohn, may not be receiving properly prepared kosher meals. The Congresswoman asks that the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility review how kosher meals are prepared and delivered.

Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) announced that local early education centers within New York's 7th Congressional District have received federal grants to continue their Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Additionally, local health centers have received federal grants to aid healthcare, mental health and substance abuse services. Both programs are federally funded and provide support services to low-incomes families.

Washington, DC- Led by Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), Members of Congress are calling on the Financial Oversight and Management Board of Puerto Rico to recoup fees that were paid out to banks and other advisors in connection with debt the Board previously said is invalid.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) has led more than 100 of her Congressional colleagues in calling for a boost in federal dollars for the "Superfund" environmental remediation program at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The National Priorities List (NPL) or "Superfund" program helps to clean up over 1,300 environmentally contaminated sites throughout the nation. Velázquez's district, New York's 7th, contains all or part of three Superfund sites: the Gowanus Canal, Newtown Creek and the Wolff-Alport Chemical Company.

"The President's remarks as reported in the media have at long last laid bare the central reason for his Administration's callous response to Maria's devastation in Puerto Rico -- namely that he does not value the lives of millions of American citizens who reside there. For the President to vocally oppose and target aid to the most vulnerable in Puerto Rico is shameful, heartless and inexcusable.

Velázquez (D-NY) as one of the most effective lawmakers in Congress. This week, the Center released their Legislative Effectiveness Scores for the 115th Congress. Among all 196 House Democrats in the last Congress, Velázquez ranked sixth.
