Washington, DC – Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) today wrote the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) calling on the agency to take steps to address the effect of the drug “K2” on local communities. The letter comes after 33 people were sent to area hospitals after smoking K2 near the Myrtle Avenue and Broadway intersection.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) shouldn’t introduce express service on the F subway line in Brooklyn until it finds out what riders think, according to U.S. Rep. Nydia Velázquez, who is demanding that the agency hold a town hall meeting and conduct other community outreach efforts to solicit public opinion.
The MTA confirmed in the spring that it is considering operating express service on the F line between the Church Avenue and Jay Street-Metrotech stations.

Bill Would Close Decades-Old Loophole Allowing Conflict of Interest
Washington, DC – The U.S. House of Representatives today approved legislation authored by U.S. Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) to close a decades-old loophole that has caused significant financial losses for many Puerto Rican investors and retirees. Velázquez’s bill, H.R.5322, would extend to investment companies operating in Puerto Rico and all the U.S. territories the same rules as those that apply on the U.S. mainland.
