Washington, DC – Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez commented on the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Board's vote on proposed regulatory reforms to the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA):

"The Community Reinvestment Act is an important regulatory bulwark that helps prevent redlining and other discrimination in the U.S. banking system. The FDIC's vote to adopt the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's proposal which will likely limit lending, investing and the availability of financial services in low- and moderate-income and underserved communities.

Washington, DC – More than one hundred members of the U.S. House of Representatives have written the Trump Administration's Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), opposing a rule change that would reverse previous nondiscrimination protections based on sexual orientation, gender identity, sex, or religion. Led by Reps. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), Angie Craig (D-MN) and Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) the Members of Congress called for the rule change's withdrawal, saying its approval would open the floodgates to discrimination in HHS programs.

"I was heartbroken to hear of the passing of Danny Kronenfeld, former Executive Director of Henry Street Settlement. For three decades, Danny worked at Henry Street, infusing it with his energy and passion. During his 16 years as Executive Director, Danny turned around Henry Street's financial situation and shepherded the organization to a sounder footing.
