Washington, DC – Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) released the following statement today regarding passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARE) Act:
"The legislation we passed today will offer an economic lifeline to millions of working families and small businesses in New York and throughout the nation. This bill is not perfect. However, with the economy in freefall and the pandemic paralyzing our nation, the American people need and deserve swift, meaningful action and this legislation delivers.

Bill Includes Small Business Loans Based on Velázquez Bill
Washington, DC – The U.S. House of Representatives has passed bipartisan legislation (H.R. 6074) providing additional federal funds to address the coronavirus outbreak. The bill includes emergency loans to assist small businesses that suffer economic damage from the virus' spread. Those measures, which would allow $7 billion in Small Business Administration (SBA) loans, are based on legislation Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) introduced last week with Reps.

Velázquez (D-NY) has led the New York City Congressional delegation in writing to Office of Management and Budget Director Mulvaney and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Carson opposing President Trump's Fiscal Year 2021 budget. In a letter sent late yesterday, the lawmakers say proposed budget cuts to HUD would devastate public housing and drastically raise rents for tenants who rely on the Section 8 housing voucher program.
